MARIO KANI, MASC, P.ENG.
Mario has spent 35 years providing ecological, economic and social sustainability for the built environment. His expertise includes efficient and durable envelope design, highly-efficient and alternative mechanical technologies, and sustainable community systems. He is one of the foremost experts in green buildings and has helped to create some of the most cutting-edge, low-energy buildings in existence today. Mario is a LEED® Accredited Professional and has been a key consultant to projects achieving LEED® certification, the Toronto Green Standard and for the Living Building Challenge.
As President of Sustainable EDGE Ltd., Mario provides leadership to design teams and owners engaged in the next generation of green buildings and sustainable communities.
Mario has served on several boards of community environmental and energy non-profit organizations and is a co-founder of the Toronto Renewable Energy Cooperative that installed the member-owned wind turbine on Toronto’s waterfront..
Senior Associate
GREG ALLEN, BASc, P.ENG..
Greg has worked in the field of sustainability for 40 years. Upon completion of his degree in engineering and studies in architecture, Greg Allen began his career in the renewable energies industry, designing and building low energy solar houses. Since that time he has worked to advance integrated design and energy efficiency as a designer, builder, community planner, inventor, researcher, manufacturer, policy advisor, teacher and environmental consultant. Greg is a LEED® Accredited Professional and has experience with this and other rating systems including Green Globes and the Living Building Challenge.
As a Senior Associate of Sustainable EDGE Ltd., Greg is an authority on advanced building system concepts, renewable energy solutions, sustainable infrastructure and sustainable community planning. Greg has also lectured at several universities and colleges including for many years teaching bioregional planning at York University.
Greg has founded and steered several boards of community-based energy non-profit organizations including Green$aver, Energy Action Council of Ontario, Toronto Renewable Energy Cooperative, and Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. Greg has also been recognized numerous times for his outstanding contribution to green building, including receiving the 2008 Green Toronto Award for Leadership and the 2005 Life Time Achievement Award from the Green Building Festival. .
Project Manager
ASHLEY SMITH, BENVSc, MENG..
Ashleyhas over ten years of project experience in sustainable design and technologies and has spent the better part of her career integrating her knowledge of ecosystem function into urban design and infrastructure masterplanning. As Project Manager with Sustainable EDGE Ltd., Ashley is responsible for managing project content and deliverables, team members, and general project support.
Ashley is a LEED® Accredited Professional and has experience with this and other rating systems such as BREEAM and Estidama Pearl Rating System.
Ashley is currently volunteering with Project Neutral, a community based social initiative seeking to assist homeowners to reduce their household carbon footprints. She has also guest lectured on sustainability at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design
